Fair Trade is a beautiful thing because it honors the producers around the globe. It is recognition that without the farmers, farm workers & artisans around the globe, who work hard growing & creating, we wouldn’t have any of the products we enjoy. Products like coffee, tea, cocoa & jewelry.
At the end of 2013 I dismantled my stall at the Irvine farmers’ market for the last time. I had been there for a decade at that point, & had decided some time earlier that it was time to move on. At the start of the adventure I really had no idea of what was in store for me; it was a huge learning experience & I met so many wonderful people along the way.
World Fair Trade Day, May 14, is fast approaching & there are events planned in more than 80 countries. The North American event is coordinated by the Fair Trade Resource Network (FTRN), & the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO, formerly known as the International Federation for Alternative Trade) is coordinating events around the globe. This year, FTRN is hoping to have 100, 000 people participate in events across North America to celebrate & promote Fair Trade.
